Template documentation (for the above template, sometimes hidden or invisible)
This template displays headings, links, and optionally other detail for an overview page for an entity, such as a building, unit, or map key, that exists in both Imperialism and Imperialism 2.
Simplest usage
For the simplest use, just add {{overview}} after any desired introduction. You may append a category such as [[Category:Units]].
Adding text below headings
To add more than the standard headings and links, expand as follows:
{{overview<!--that's the start of the template; do not alter this line-->
|imp1=<!--that starts a section of the template; don't delete this line-->
|imp2=<!--that starts a section of the template; don't delete this line-->
}}<!-- that marks the end of the template; don't delete this line-->
Then enter text into any parameter (i.e., straight after an "=" sign or starting a new line), and it will be printed to the page as-is. Best kept to a couple of lines indicating what's distinctive compared with other games. A heading is created even if you leave the parameter empty. If you really want to use headings, make them with three "=" signs at each end.
If you know that the feature is not present in a particular game, you may add "no" after "=", and the result will just say the feature is not present in the game and will not show a link to an article. If a feature is present in only one game of those we cover, it should not have an overview page.
If a previous edit used the simple version and you want to add detail about a single game or two, you may just insert the appropriate line(s) from the above template. So it might look like {{overview|imp1=Used in the [[Ancient Greece]] scenario}}
Examples of use
See Nepal for the simple version and for an example of how to set out detail where wanted.
Slight differences in page names
If the actual game uses a different title, such as "Warriors" instead of "Warrior", you need to create the page that this template points to, and make it a "Redirect" to the actual game article. Find "Redirect" from the "more +" button above the edit box.
Complete logic of what it does

For each game, it always gives a game heading; and, starting in the next line:

  • If "=no", it merely says that the feature is not present in that game
  • If there is any other coding or none specific to that game, it gives EITHER:
    • "Main article" (or redirect) link in a separate line if there is an article (or redirect) with the matching name; OR
    • A paragraph saying the feature is not present or the article has not been created, if there is no matching page name
  • If any other coding, it then reproduces that, as ordinary wikitext
Possible changes

The source template has since been changed. Similar changes could be made here but seem unjustified in view of our small number of games.

Features that are in other games

See {{Overview+}} for a similar template used for features that appear also in Trade Empires and could be adapted to cover others that we might include in the wiki.
