At the end of the sequence that follows the clicking of the "End Turn" button in Imperialism, you see the top of page 1 of an edition of the "Imperial Times", dated according to the quarter you are just starting.

Most of its items have no game significance and can be "repeats" but often relate interestingly to real events around the date. Some items, however, are well worth noting: new technology, for example, is usually mentioned in the newspaper and not always mentioned by your advisor, and some (but not always all) of the military and diplomatic initiatives around the world are reported.

The nearest equivalent in Imperialism 2 is the turn report.

Real newspapers tended to have mostly advertisements on their front pages until well into the 20th century.
